Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have knee swelling and having to walk with slight limp. how long should i wait to see a doctor? i am icing at night. i have had previous surgery from sports on this knee for {loose body broken bone chips} and about ten years later to smooth some of the bone around knee. I dont wanna jump the gun for a little pain and swelling, i have this happen from time to time. I just dont want any long term damage if i wait. this is a little different than any issues ive had from over doing it in exercise or whatever. it does feel feverish ..
I think you may have osteoarthritis. The previous trauma and surgery on it may be the causes of it.
You can use anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or Naproxen to ease the pain.
Also, put cold compresses over it to reduce inflammation. Have rest. Oral corticosteroids can help you to reduce inflammation. Also, injections with corticosteroids or Hyaluronic Acid can help knee function.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,
